Chapter 12

Franklin

My belly grew with each passing day, to the point where I wasn’t sure how much bigger I could possibly get. But I was assured by the wolves around me that I had a long way to go, which I knew from being a pack healer once upon a time, but still, it didn’t seem possible. In terms of typical human pregnancies, I looked close to seven months pregnant, easily.

And I wasn’t. Not even close.

I had only been pregnant a month and a half, which was just under halfway through a wolf pregnancy. Thank wolves for having expedited the process. I wasn’t sure if I loved that aspect, or hated it. I also wasn’t quite sure if I would have such a short gestation. I knew from the size of me, even for triplets, that I wasn’t going the full nine months, but it was quite possible I’d be somewhere in the middle. And for that reason I tried not to get to comfy in the whole four month thing.

The frustrating part was that none of my clothing fit anymore. Wilder offered to take me to the human stores for some paternity clothing. And I’d probably have taken him up on it if I was having a singleton. But with triplets, I doubted their clothing would even fit me for long.

I’d resorted to wearing Wilder’s sweatpants. I didn’t mind. The scented like him. The only problem was that they wouldn’t last for too long. They were already tight on me and when I put them under my belly, they were far too long. And my shirts—even Wilder’s were now belly shirts.

Luckily enough, in addition to being skilled at constructing buildings, Edith also sewed and came with both a sewing machine and gobs of fabric. She and her husband truly were gifts to the pack from the goddess. There was no other explanation for them being here and fitting in so perfectly, bringing skills with them we needed while letting us give them the place to grow roots that they needed.

Both she and Phillip had given me sewing lessons. Phillip was more skilled at things like piecing quilts than he was at clothing, but the man could transfer a pattern from a PDF to fabric like a boss. And Edith was the master of all machines. I learned so much from them in such a short amount of time. I quite enjoyed sitting on a sewing machine, putting together things here and there.

It was the morning of my tenth week on the territory and we were awaiting the council’s visit to finally give us our stamp of approval. We were officially a pack. Thankfully, it was a nice member of the council that came.

I’d always liked Arthur. He seemed fair and to actually care about doing what was right for the shifters under their rule. I appreciated that. Had he made mistakes? Absolutely. But there was never malicious intent behind them.

Andrew and Melanie were members of Arthur’s staff who came along with him for the visit.
